What are the Side effects of Calcitonin?

Calcitonin is a type of hormone that is prescribed during cancer to prevent bone destruction and as a pain reliever. It is considered to be very less effective as it’s healing power tends to run out fast. When given as an injection or a nasal spray, it does not necessarily have any side effects but it may vary patient to patient.

When it is provided as a shot, it can cause the site to be red along with swelling and allergies. It can make the patient feel nauseating. Fatigue is also a possibility which makes the patient reluctant to do day to day work. It can cause mild migraines and pain in the stomach. If taken nasally, it can make the nose congested. It can also cause the taste buds to react unusually by creating a metallic or salty sensation.

It can also kill appetite, which eventually makes the body weak and fragile. Dizziness and chills are also listed as possible side effects from Calcitonin. It can also create a tingling sensation in the hand and leg joints. It can also provoke increased amount of urination.

Calcitonin does not necessarily display these side effects in patients. But there are exceptions where severe cases of cancer can provoke these.
