What is Pain Management? |
|
Acute pain generally does not need any prescription as it is relieved in a short time; however, many prefer to take over-the-counter medications, such as Tylenol, to help faster pain relief. Chronic pain may require sufficient pain management measures in order to keep it under control. Pain management for chronic pain depends upon the history and the severity of the pain. Techniques for pain management may include interventional procedures, prescription/medication management, psychological counseling, electrical stimulation, physical therapy, surgery, acupuncture or other alternative therapies. Pain management is most successful when a number of techniques are combined to provide a comprehensive treatment. Pain management should be a multidisciplinary method and should be employed in an all-inclusive manner that addresses all aspects of the pain; only then can pain be alleviated from the body. |
