How bioelectric therapy works |
Bioelectric Therapy has been developed in order to help people to achieve the 'balanced' state that we refer to as ‘homeostasis’, which is achieved by getting rid of foreign pathogens thus giving the body exactly what it requires in order for it to be able to repair itself. Bioelectric therapy works with the help of electricity. The therapy involves several flat and small rubber adhesive discs or electrodes to be applied to the patient’s skin in all the areas that have been prescribed for treatment. Sometimes suction cups made of rubber, also called vaso pneumatic devices may even be applied to the skin. The discs called electrodes are then connected to a computer, which programs the exact and precise dosage of treatment that is needed for that particular patient. Alternating electric currents with high frequency are then passed through the electrodes. This allows the currents to move through the skin very fast and by causing minimal discomfort. During this treatment, the patient’s response to the electrical stimulation is noted and measured. Usually when the electricity is applied, a tingling and mild vibrating sensation is quite common. However, this kind of sensation ideally should not cause any kind of discomfort. Rather the patient should feel a soothing and relaxing relief from pain. Also, during the treatment, it is important to maintain verbal communication with the attending therapist in order to provide appropriate feedback so that the treatment can be adjusted according to the patient’s comfort level. This bioelectric therapy lasts for a duration of around 20 minutes or so. |
