How is neck pains diagnosed?

Most people these days spend the greater part of the day, working at a desk or in front of their computer. Others have more than tolerable levels of stress in their lives. These habits can lead to permanent sufferings of neck pains. And left untreated, neck pains can become chronic and reach unbearable levels especially with the onset of other medical conditions. While in some cases, neck pains cannot be isolated to find a particular cause; in some cases the reasons behind the persistency of the pains can be diagnosed.

A doctor will, if consulted about long lasting neck pains, often inquire in the medical history of the patient. They will require knowledge about past accidents and sicknesses. This is to determine if the neck pains are directly or indirectly the side-effects of another illness. A doctor will also, take a physical examination of the patient. When asked question about movement or weakness or any other feeling, patient should be as accurate as possible. Then it will be easier for the doctor to determine the cause behind the neck pains.

The doctor may also take various image tests, such as MRI scans, X-rays or CT scans, to check whether the causes behind the pains are not symptoms of another, more serious problem.
