Can Neck pain be prevented? |
Nothing can be quite as frustrating as the muscle-deep, nagging pain in the neck. There’s a reason why extremely annoying people are called ‘pain in the necks’. When you get a headache because of the pain, or can’t move your head, or feel a knot that won’t go away no matter how much you massage it, it is natural to feel just a little homicidal. Neck pain occurs because of a strain on the neck, caused by slouching, sleeping in an awkward position or by stretching the neck for a long time, like when painting a ceiling. Neck pain can spread over to the shoulders and upper back over time. Accidents can also cause neck pain, such as a car accident, a bad fall, and so on. The neck muscles may become swollen, or experience a spasm. The only way to prevent neck pain is simple: Watch your posture, don’t put any strain on the neck, and be careful of accidents. Sudden neck pains may be treated with Tylenol and a cold ice pack. If the neck pain is chronic, the sleeping and sitting posture needs changing. Neck pains may also be caused by an infection in the neck or a narrowing of the spinal canal in the neck. When having such aches, it is best to consult a doctor. |
