How can neck pain be prevented in the future focusing on body mechanics?

As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure. While quite a relative statement, it is true for many instances and neck pain if one of those cases. Maintaining the following guidelines can aid in preventing occurrences of neck pain:

  1. The body needs exercise to function properly, the neck being no exception. Strengthening and stretching exercises help prevent stiffness and injury.

  2.  Activities like prolonged computer work should be avoided.

  3. Reduction of stress, depression and tension is important. Relaxing exercises help relax  the neck muscles that can make it more flexible

  4. Smoking results in impaired tissue repair and reproduction, and there is just no way around it, but stopping it.

  5. The posture is also important. One should not slouch or push the head forwards, since it removes the support from the back.

  6. For individuals who work with computers, the screen should always exist at the eye level for optimum support to the neck muscles.

  7. Pillows should always be just the correct height sine the neck is not pushed excessively towards any one direction.

In addition to these tactics, many patients who are already suffering from acute neck pain, many other steps could be taken, like wearing a cervical collar.
