Which Events or Circumstances can inflict Acute or Chronic Pain?

Pain that is acute usually starts suddenly and is sharp in terms of quality. It is a typical indicator that the body is uncomfortable and acts as a good warning of a threat to the body or a disease of some kind. Acute pain can be caused by several circumstances or events, including:

  • Surgery
  • Abrasions and Cuts
  • Dental work
  • Childbirth and labor
  • Sprains
  • Torn ACL
  • Fractures or broken bones
  • Shoulder dislocations

In sharp contrast, chronic pain may be caused by psychogenic pain. This is the kind of pain that can be caused by a mental or emotional health issue. This pain is not a result of any type of injury, damage or disease to the nervous system. On the contrary, psychogenic pain is quite rare, and depression, stress, and other mental health factors may contribute to making this pain even worse.

While there are many cases of people suffering from chronic pain, the exact cause of such a pain is quite unidentifiable. Tests are not always a complete revelation of the illness, injury or changes in tissue that may have caused or triggered chronic pain and so, sometimes, it may just be impossible to identify or find the exact reasons of your pain.
