What Does Cancer Pain Feel Like?

Many people wonder what cancer victims feel when they know that they have cancer. They wonder what goes on in their heads. But the biggest question in most minds is what kind of pain do they feel?

Not every cancer patient feels the same pain as it varies according to the type of cancer the patient is afflicted by. It also depends on how large the tumor is and where it is located.

If a tumor is present on top of nerves, the pain felt will be similar to inflammation or a burning sensation. Cancer treatments such as radiation therapy and chemotherapy can also cause this sort of pain.

If the tumor is located on a bone, then the pain will be similar that of an aching pain. The pain will also increase as the size of the tumor increases. The worst pain is felt if the tumor grows into the bone or develops from inside the bone itself.

Another form of pain that is only felt after an amputation surgery is called phantom pain. This is a very different form of pain as it is caused by the nerve endings of the removed structure sending pain signals to the brain. This fools the brain into thinking the body part is still attached.
