Second degree burn – this type of burn not only affect the epidermis, but also the lower layer of the skin known as dermis. The skin goes through pain, swelling, redness and blistering. Third degree burn – apart from affecting epidermis and dermis, this type of burn goes beyond that and affect the deeper tissues. The skin might become white or black, and charred that may eventually become numb. The main causes of burn include dry heat (fire), wet heat (steam, hot liquids), friction, radiation, the sun, heated objects, electricity and chemicals. However, the most common types of burn are the thermal burn. This burn happens when hot metals, steams, flames or scalding liquids come in contact with the skin due to incidents such as house fires, kitchen accidents, vehicle accidents and electrical malfunctions. |
